The Ratzinger Prize, given by the Vatican Foundation Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI, has been awarded this year to two theologians and a musician. During the award ceremony Pope Francis praised his predecessor, highlighting his love for truth and beauty.

“His prayer and his discreet and encouraging presence accompany us on the common path; his work and his teaching continue to be a living and precious heritage for the Church,” Pope Francis said, “That is why I urge your Foundation to continue in its commitment, studying and deepening this heritage while looking ahead.”

Referring to St John Paul II’s encyclical Fides et Ratio, the Pope said that “Joseph Ratzinger continues to be a teacher and a friendly interlocutor for all those who exercise the gift of reason to respond to the human vocation of seeking the truth.” And the truth, he added at the end of his address, “as Pope Benedict has not tired of reminding us, is together in God, logos and agape, wisdom and love, incarnate in the person of Jesus.”

We now offer our readers a free eBook with some of the most important interventions of Benedict XVI in the area of faith and reason, including an address from 2005, when he was Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, two weeks before he was elected Pope.
