The mortal remains of Bishop Javier Echevarría were brought this morning to Our Lady of Peace, the Prelatic church of Opus Dei. A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, December 15th, at 7 pm, in Saint Eugene's basilica.

As soon as he heard the news of Bishop Echevarría's death, the Holy Father telephoned to express his sorrow and also sent an affectionate telegram.

The Prelate of Opus Dei, Bishop Javier Echevarría, is in the Campus Bio-Medico hospital in Rome with a minor lung infection.

"We are invited to turn our eyes to Christ, while recalling his terrestrial birth in Bethlehem and awaiting, also with joy and peace, his glorious coming at the end of time."

On November 7 in the morning, the Holy Father received Bishop Javier Echevarría, Prelate of Opus Dei, in an audience.

Bishop Javier Echevarría has made a brief pastoral visit to Estonia and Finland, where he encouraged people to carry out an "intense apostolate of evangelization."

"We are continuously presented with opportunities to 'open ourselves like a fan' to serve more people, including those who have had no experience of Christian life, or do not have faith, or habitually fail to practice it," the Prelate tells us.

The Prelate focuses on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14, and reminds us that accompanying the sick and elderly in their suffering is a work of mercy very pleasing to God.

The Prelate writes about Mary's Assumption and Queenship, and reflects on a spiritual work of mercy: "bearing wrongs patiently."
